The number of people who have signed the petition for the change of Potami beach to “Mermaid Jonada” has reached 4 000 signatures, in less than 24 hours since its publication.
This is what the poet Alma Papamihali, who initiated the petition, after writing a poem about the 7-year-old, told “Euronews Albania” during a recent interview.
“This initiative was written by chance. First, I wrote a poem that went viral and reached a wide audience. The poem was about symbolism like the mermaid Jonada, an inspiration that came naturally. So far, there have been 4,000 signatories who have signed this petition. The petition is mainly online, it is the people themselves who have taken the initiative”, she said.
3 days ago, a serious incident took place on the beach of Potami in Himare, where a minor was hit to death by a speedboat driven by Arjan Tase.
Tase was a police officer, who was immediately dismissed from the ranks of the police after the incident, and this Friday the Court of Vlora issued a ruling on his arrest and imprisonment until an official sentence can be decided.
Meanwhile, yesterday, a protest was held in Tirana in honor of the 7-year-old. Many were demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Minister of the Interior, Bledi Çuçi and the General Director of the Police, Gladis Nano.
