President Ilir Meta spoke to the press today, during which he revealed the reason why he left the Socialist Party back in 2004.
Meta said that Fatos Nano’s administration had blocked the country’s European integration process, which is why, he decided to leave SP and create a new party – the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) – in 2005, which played a crucial role in overthrowing the Socialist government.
“I left SP in 2004, because it had turned into an obstacle for the country’s European integration, while also blocking the agreement of stabilization association. This was the reason why I created a new party, the Socialist Movement for Integration – so that we could free up the way for our European integration process and I was able to do this because after 2005, SMI played a detrimental role in overthrowing a government whose only priority was power and corruption. It was precisely through the 2005 rotation process that we were able to sign the stabilization association agreement in 2006,” – said President Meta.
Meta’s statements were made during a press conference earlier today, which was focused on the latest study by RankingWeb, which ranked Albanian universities last in terms of their web quality.
