At least 2 mineworkers died today when a tunnel in the city of Tropoja collapsed.

The incident took place this Saturday at around 12:00 CET in the village of Lajthize.

At first, rescue teams were able to recover the body of a 41-year-old miner.

A few hours later, after police had joined in the effort of miners and the emergency crew, they were able to find the body of a second miner who was unfortunately unable to survive the fatal accident.

The two miners were A.Zh, 40, a resident of Kepenek and A.D, 41 and a resident of Tropoja.

Investigators are still working to uncover the details about what caused this tunnel collapse in collaboration with Tropoja’s District Prosecution.
