Minister Elva Margariti denied the fact that the delays in the construction of the new National Theatre have anything to do with a lack of funds.

She didn’t however hide the fact that this lack, after more than a year since the old building’s demolition, is related to economic insecurity.

During her interview for Euronews Albania’s ‘SOT’ with Jonida Shehu, the minister of culture linked the delays in the beginning of the construction project for the new theatre with the general energy crisis as a result of the war in Ukraine, but she emphasized that the funding for this project has been calculated in this year’s state budget.

“We’ve worked hard for this project. It is a decision that will be unanimously matured in the next government meeting, in order to bring forward this major project, which is already calculated in this year’s budget. It is a budget of up to 900 million ALL that will be needed to start this major project. What we are all expecting is for this investment to be executed at the maximum level of standards and performance,” – said Margariti.
