North Macedonia is on the brink of yet another political crisis due to the opposition threatening to Parliament proceedings.
The opposition party VMRO DPMNE, has given an ultimate to the government, to agree to hold snap elections by May 10, otherwise, they have forewarned measures that will paralyze Parliament and all parliamentary bodies.
The opposition believes that after their victory in the local elections, the current government has lost its legitimacy to continue leading the government.
Euronews Albania’s correspondent in Skopje, Benjamin Arifi, reports that so far, no talks have taken place between PM Dimitar Kovaceski and opposition leader Hristjan Mickoski.
“Things haven’t changed since the publication of VPRO DMPNE’s ultimatum. So far, no direct talks have taken place between the opposition and the government. Yesterday, the prime minister said that he would be meeting with the head of the opposition to discuss any concerns, except for the option of holding snap parliamentary elections,” – he said.
According to a recent poll, 39% of Macedonian citizens are in favor of holding snap elections, as opposed to 32% who aren’t.
