On Tuesday, North Macedonia is set to allow sunflower oil exports with Albania.
An oil shortage has spiked prices in the Albanian market, with the price per liter reaching €3.17.
The agreement was confirmed following a joint press conference on Monday in Tirana between the Albanian Minister of Finance and the Economy and her Macedonian counterpart Kreshnik Bekteshi.
“Tomorrow, North Macedonia will take an important decision in opening sunflower oil exports with Albania”, said Minister Delina Ibrahimaj.
Prices rose when Ukrainian companies canceled contracts for the import of sunflower oil, including with Albanian contractors.
However, it seems that North Macedonia could be a potential country that could fill that void created in the Albanian market.
As soon as the war began, North Macedonia halted exports of sunflower oil, wheat, and flour, in an effort to protect its own market from shortages and price hikes.
