The Leaders Conference will officially begin today at the Albanian Parliament to elect the new president.
The conference of parliamentary groups is set to start today at 12:30.
Representatives from the majority and opposition will set the first date when the vote for the new president will take place.
The process should have started since May 4, but it was postponed by the head of DP’s parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj, who asked for an extension for procedures.
Within the Democratic Party there have been constant debates in regards to the issue of whether or not the DP will participate in the process of electing the country’s new president.
The Re-foundation Commission adopted a new resolution on May 6, according to which the head of state does not have to be elected with votes from the Socialist Party.
On the other hand, Alibeaj has publicized a document, where he has stated several criteria which should be fulfilled by the candidate for president.
