The Regulatory and Immunity Council will convene this Friday to discuss the possibility of taking away Olta Xhacka’s parliamentary immunity, after a request presented by DP’s parliamentary group.
The reason for this request was the alleged involvement of Xhacka’s husband, SP’s former MP Arban Gaci, in a strategic investment project on the coast.
DP is accusing minister Xhacka of an apparent conflict of interest in regard to a decision made by the Council of Ministers.
The opposition is claiming that her husband stands behind a company that will build a tourist resort at the coast of Himara under the category of a ‘strategic investment’.
Olta Xhacka began her political life back in 2009 as an MP of the Socialist Party for the county of Korca.
In March 2017, she was entrusted with the leadership of the ministry of social welfare and youth – a function she only kept for 5 months.
During the same year, she took the leadership of another ministry – the ministry of defense – by replacing Mimi Kodheli. Xhacka served as minister of defense until January 2017.
At the beginning of 2021, Xhacka became minister of foreign affairs by replacing Gent Cakaj.
