The Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti referred to warnings issued on a rise of consumer prices as “ominous”, adding that the country’s double-digit economic growth “is the news that is scaring Kosovo’s enemies”. The remarks came following a government meeting.

“All these ominous warnings on a rise in prices have a negative effect and aim to incite fear. Economic growth in our country occurred because citizens are hopeful and think in a better future than the present is”, declared Kurti in front of the media.

According to PM Kurti, many are fearful of Kosovo’s double-digit growth and that if the trend persists, the country might even get closer to Croatia’s development rates.

“Do you know what it would mean if we continue to maintain this 10% growth? We’ll get closer to Croatia. If year by year we continue with the 10% growth, something unprecedented in the Balkans, we’ll get closer to the country that recently joined the EU”, Kurti said.

After the government’s meeting which saw the adoption of the 2022 budget, Kurti vowed to build the Prizren-Tetova highway.

Kurti also recalled that Kosovo took in 1,286 Afghans, of which 528 have now been relocated to their final destination.
