Analyst Andi Bushati considers our country’s ranking in this year’s press freedom report by Reporters Without Borders, the worst in Albania’s history.
Out of a total of 180 countries on the list – with North Korea being the 180th – Albania took the 103rd spot, dropping some 20 ranks, since last year.
According to Bushati, it isn’t a coincidence that Albania lost 20 ranks and is now last in the region when it comes to press freedom.
In addition, he argued that PM Edi Rama is always denying what’s actually going on in our country, especially when he finds himself in a difficult situation.
“This has by far been the worst report in Albania’s history and it is definitely not a coincidence that Albania lost 20 ranks compared to last year. We are now ranked last in the region when it comes to the freedom of the press. The Prime Minister’s approach to all of this is quite interesting too, as he always pulls off the same old trick whenever he finds himself in a difficult situation – he acts in denial. I believe the only reason Rama is continuing to manipulate is that this is the worst report on Albania yet,” – said Bushati.
Meanwhile, according to analyst Baton Haxhiu, it’s the system itself that has messed up the rules on how electronic media work, not Rama per se.
“It’s a category, which has violated all rules on how electronic media should function. Handing out licenses without any sort of criteria, not respecting the codes that are in place everywhere in Europe. These rules have been messed up by the system, not Edi Rama. For some time now, a system is in place that has ruined our electronic press,” – said Haxhiu.
