The Prosecution Office of Tirana sent an inquiry to the General Directorate of Taxation over an investigation on several call centers headquartered in Albania suspected of fraudulent schemes.

The order compels secondary banks in Tirana to provide transactions from the past two years, and also information from telecommunication companies on outbound calls made toward German, Dutch, Italian, and French customers.

Over one thousand people are believed to have fallen prey of these fraudulent schemes urging customers to invest in fake stocks, with losses amounting to at least €500,000.

But the real losses might actually exceed millions of euros and is yet undetermined. Two investigations are ongoing, respectively from SPAK and the Tirana Prosecution Office.
