The candidate for the primaries for the Municipality of Tirana, Gert Bogdani, has stated that in democracy, protests are bound to happen, referring to December 6, when DP’s rally is set to take place.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Bogdani emphasized that the Democratic Party has had communication with the international community while adding that for protests, permission is not obtained from the police, but the latter is only notified.

“The December 6 protest is not the same as SP’s protest when Albania joined NATO. We could only wish to enter the EU on December 6. Protests are part of democracy, as is the raising of the voice. Communications with internationals are different. We don’t get permission for the protest, we only make a notification.

The state police should guarantee the progress of the protest and not hinder the protest. This is thanks to the civil society, it is the Court that decided this” – he said.

On the other hand, journalist Roland Qafoku stated that December 6 is not the right day for the protest, given that the EU-Western Balkans summit is taking place in Tirana on that day.

“I cannot understand how this protest will be organized, the security of the summit has its own rules. You cannot prioritize a protest, on the same day as the most important summit which will take place and make history in Albania-EU relations, over the opposition that has 364 more days to protest every morning. This day isn’t right, it’s the wrong decision. You would earn much more points if you withdraw from this protest,” he said.
