PM Edi Rama said that he still doesn’t have a concrete name that the Socialist Party could propose as the new candidate for president.

At the end of SP’s Leadership meeting, Rama said however that the candidate for president won’t be a current member of parliament.

“The candidate won’t be from SP’s parliamentary group,” – said Rama.

In addition, Rama said that out of the three names proposed so far by Socialist MPs, are personalities involved in the political world and those who aren’t.

The prime minister refused to answer a question about whether or not the three names he himself proposed were from the political world.

Rama added that he doesn’t expect the opposition to offer any kind of contribution when it comes to this process, despite the fact that they will wait until the last moment, in order to be able to reach a compromise.

However, Rama excluded the possibility of SP negotiating with DP’s Re-foundation Commission, by saying that he is only willing to speak to the head of DP’s parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj.

Initially, SP asked for a first round of voting in Parliament in regards to appointing the new president, to be held on May 4.

But that date was postponed to May 10, in order to give the opposition more time to reorganize and participate in negotiations.
