PM Edi Rama declared during today’s meeting of SP’s parliamentary group that on March 6, the current government will run against an opposition that is ‘competing against itself’.

“On the one hand, we will present 6 candidates who offer a new chance, based on concrete work. On the other, there are [the opposition’s] 12, 18, or more candidates. On one hand, there’s us, on the other it’s them, staging a ‘show of force’ against one another and at the expense of these municipalities and their own voters,” – said Rama.

In addition, Rama argued that in these upcoming local by-elections, the ruling Socialist party will go up against ‘two Democratic Parties’.

Rama also spoke about the election of the new Albanian president. He announced that the new head of state will be selected by the Socialist parliamentary group followed by a process of consultation with citizens and the opposition.

‘In April, we need to appoint the new president, and this time, it will be this parliamentary group who will propose someone. The overwhelmingly complicated situation with the current 2 Democratic parties, however, puts us at great unease in terms of who or which parliamentary opposition to turn to and request a dialogue from,” – said Rama.
