The issue of destabilization in the Balkans should be referred to NATO, according to Fatmir Meidu.

The Chair of the Republican Party told Euronews Albania that our country should hold a consolidated stance when it comes to the stirred-up political situation in the Western Balkans. In addition, he said that it’s best we act now because it will be too late if something that hurts our national interest were to happen.

Mediu emphasized that Albanian politics shouldn’t only focus on the internal debate, especially at a time when the added interest of the US and the stance held by the European Parliament only go to show that they are closely following developments in Bosnia, Kosovo and the ethnic conflicts in Montenegro.

“We should open our eyes and see things for what they are. Military spending in Serbia has gone up tremendously and Russia as well, has a military presence, an intelligence presence, and an incredibly powerful presence in terms of its impact on disinformation and the press,” – said the head of RP, while underlining the potential risk for a return of regional conflicts.

What should Albania do?

According to Mediu, as a NATO member state, Albania should lay out the case before this organization. Parliament should also find a way to determine its stance in relation to Serbia, through a resolution, he said.

“Serbia’s script is clear. They’ve confronting their issues with Kosovo through Albania,” – said Mediu.
