Albania’s Union of Judges is in favor of the new judicial map.

In a statement released on Monday, the union referred to the new map as ‘responsive to citizens’ needs at its best’.

“The National Union of Judges of the Republic of Albania praises maximally the nearly 3-years work led until now by the High Judicial Council in connection with the analysis and projection of the new judicial map”.

Also, the union said the new map provides ‘qualitative justice’ that is ‘equal to all’.

On the other side, lawyers have been critical of the new map, claiming that their input has not been considered.

As a consequence, they started a 4-day strike and boycotted court sessions.

The new map design includes 13 first instance courts, 2 administrative courts, and one appeal court for the entire country.

This was the final proposal of the High Judicial Council after months of consultation with interest groups.

The body then approved the draft which now must go through the Council of Ministers, the High Prosecutorial Council, General Prosecution, and the Ministry of Finances.
