All road axes in Albania have been declared passable despite frost warnings and the bad weather conditions that have swept through the entire nation.
The Albanian Road Authority came out with this public message early this morning, which added that the most problematic roads have been treated with salt in order to prevent the build-up of severe icy conditions.
Meanwhile, in regions that have experienced heavy snowfall, snow plowing teams have cleared off parts of the road in order to make them more passable.
Drivers have been advised to be careful when driving at night or in the early morning hours, respect traffic signs, reduce their speed, and gear up with snow tires.
Korca District:
In the district of Korce, all road axes remain open but drivers can only pass by through snow chains. In rural areas, there is still no news of power outages and drivers still need to get ahold of snow chains in order to cross through.
In the village of Dardha, snowfall has reached 40 cm.
Road axes:
Qafe Thane-Pogradec-Korçe – passable without tire snow chains, but winter tires are required.
Korçe-Dardhe – partially passable with snow chains
Korçe-Voskopoje – partially passable with snow chains
Korçe-Erseke – partially passable with snow chains in Qafe Qarri
Korçe-Kapshtice – road is open
The weather is expected to get even worse by Monday when temperatures are said to reach – 18°C. Dibra and Korca are expected to be the two counties experiencing the coldest weather this week, as well as the most snowfall.
