Former Democrat MP Rudina Hajdari endorsed on Tuesday the statute proposed during the Assembly convened from Sali Berisha, which she believes can bring the DP back to its feet.
In an interview for Euronews Albania, Hajdari said she agrees with the amendments as they empower the role of the party’s members and weaken that of its chairman.
She emphasized that the DP cannot be held hostage by a single individual.
“The Democratic Party is one of the most important parties and a national asset, in the sense that it brought democracy to this country. It needs to return to its missions. It cannot be a party that belongs to an individual, that held it hostage for the sake of his own interests, be that personal, family, or those of a certain grouping. It must be a party that cherishes a broad membership”, Hajdari said.
She noted that she has been in touch with former PM Sali Berisha.
“We have long family ties with Mr. Berisha. We’ve had the usual exchanges, I’ve always been clear about that. Talks about the DP can only be carried out at the dialogue table”, said the former MP.
