Journalist Eni Ferhati stated that Muhamet Rrumbullaku, who is one of the candidates rumored to succeed Gladis Nano in the post of General Chief of Police, has been anathematized and accused by today’s ruling Socialist majority, back in 2005-2013, when the Democratic Party used to be in power.

While talking to Euronews Albania, Ferhati said that Rrumbullaku was promoted during this period by the Democratic Party, at the highest level of the police force.

Ferhati added that Rrumbullaku’s appointment as head of the Police Supervision Agency in 2019 was accompanied by an additional backlash.

“It just so happens that we have a clear recollection of certain names within the State Police, who are still serving at high managerial levels and who are simply moved to less important functions at a given point in time, only to be re-promoted soon after. Without making any presumptions about Mr. Rrumbullaku – a figure that was promoted at the highest rank during the time DP was in power from 2005-2013 – I’d like to point out that back then, he was anathematized and accused by the current Socialist majority, before making a comeback following a 4-year break, from 2014-2017, during which Rrumbullaku worked in the private sector.

He returned in 2017 as a high-level advisor at the proposal of the Democratic Party, during the technical government phase. Soon after, he left again to work in the private sector and in 2019, was ultimately appointed as head of the Police Supervision Agency. Even at that time, there was some kind of ongoing debate and backlash regarding Rrumbullaku’s appointment”, said Ferhati.
