SPAK for Euronews Albania: There are no open investigations on Berisha or Meta

There are currently no proceedings registered under the names of Ilir Meta and Sali Berisha, in regards to the infamous ‘CEZ-DIA’, ‘January 21’, or the ‘Gerdec’ files.

Euronews Albania directed an official request at the Special Prosecution, where they asked about whether or not there was an open investigation on the incident that took place on January 21, 2011 at the national boulevard, where 4 protestors were killed.

SPAK’s official response was that there were no open investigations.

Euronews Albania further asked SPAK about the CEZ-DIA casefile, for which the only person that is in prison so far is businessman Kastriot Ismailaj, head of the company DIA.

In 2009, the prosecution had received a wiretap between him and Ilir Meta, where the latter was allegedly asking for money. But the case was dismissed and all investigative materials were destroyed.

There are currently no open investigations on Ilir Meta in regards to this case, which was SPAK’s official response for Euronews Albania.

In addition, in regards to the Gerdec files, the prosecution stated that they do have an open investigation and the only person currently being investigated is former defense minister Fatmir Mediu.

for the past 3 weeks, PM Edi Rama has been asking SPAK to start investigating Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta.
