The United Kingdom wants a safe Western Balkans, whose institutions are strong and democratic and where the rule of law prevails.

This is what the British Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Stuard Peach is known to have said recently.

During his visit to Bosnia and Hercegovina, Peach said that the British prime minister, Boris Johnson has asked him to serve in this high public function, in order to support Britain’s efforts in the entire region.

In addition, he wants to offer his support for finding political solutions as well as promote Euro-Atlantic integration.

“During my visit to Bosnia, I will be meeting with high-ranking politicians, law enforcement agencies, MPs and what’s most important, with young actors from the civil society, who work hard in promoting peace and reconciliation,” – said Peach.

Peach was appointed in his present post as Britain’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans in early December.

In their public declaration following Peach’s appointment, the British Government stated that he will be supportive of the work of the high international representative in Bosnia, Christina Schmidt.

In regards to the Kosovo and Serbia relations, he will be collaborating with his partners in Britain in order to continue efforts to normalize relations between the two countries in the European Union.

This year, the United States has also appointed a new special envoy for the Western Balkans.

Gabriel Escobar has substituted Matthew Palmer since September. At the moment, Palmer is the United States Special Envoy for the electoral reform in Bosnia Hercegovina.

In addition, the EU has appointed diplomat Miroslav Lajcak as their Special Envoy in the region.
