“These communism-style boards aren’t the solution to the ongoing crisis”.

This is what DP’s deputy chair Jorida Tabaku said in a post on social media, referring to the state-ordered expert boards that were set up to monitor the crisis and periodically settle on a fixed price for oil.

“Citizens can’t be rescued by giving them a [25 euro] payment for the next 3 months that will allegedly make up for the massive price hikes for basic food products. This is ridiculous and isn’t based on their actual needs. The government can’t just pass around these pity checks but rather, it should find the necessary mechanisms to prevent price hikes from weighing down on citizens’ pockets,” – wrote Tabaku.

According to her, the only way is to change the entire taxation structure – especially at a time when inflation has reached 4%.

“So, Albanians who get the same salary as last year, have to buy products at a price that is 4% higher, whereas senior citizens get them at 7% higher,” – said the Democratic MP.

Tabaku also underlined that at this time, the government is actually planning to add even more taxes.

“The measures taken by the government are populist and entirely unhealthy for the economy, let alone for citizens. This package only goes to show that the government, unfortunately, continues to see the state budget as a sack that can be gifted to the oligarchs instead of serving regular citizens,” – said the deputy chair of DP.
