Democrat MP Jorida Tabaku got into a verbal altercation on Tuesday with the deputy mayor of Tirana Arbjan Mazniku at the parliamentary commission on economy and finances.

Tabaku said that in 5 years the price of water rose by 44%, meanwhile the water supply company (UKT) is seeking a €80 million loan from the EBRD to provide uninterruptued water supply.

“Your statement is the same as that of Erion Veliaj in 2017, where he said that we are increasing the price to provide water supply in Tirana as per the model Korça. Now you are saying that we will receive an 80 million euro loan from the EBRD to make it like Korça after 5 years, when you have increased the price by 44%”, said Tabaku.

According to her, UKT is mocking citizens, as it is asking for a loan 5 years after the price increased claiming that the investment would provide 24 hour supply of drinking water.

Tabaku emphasized that UKT has requested to raise the price of drinking water as well increase by 100% the fixed monthly tariff, which depends on the level of water consumption.
