US president Joe Biden shared a message for the 100th anniversary of established diplomatic relations between Albania and the United States.
During an event held in Tirana for the occasion, the US ambassador Yuri Kim shared a video message in which Biden emphasized that the US will continue to support Albania in the future, to fight corruption and to continue on the EU path.
“Let’s walk towards the future. The US will continue to support Albania in order to strengthen democratic institutions, fight corruption and continue on its path towards the European Union. Together, we will give our children a better future,” – said Biden.
President Biden also highlighted that “When the United States protected Albania’s sovereignty after World War I, a permanent friendship was created between both of our nations; an eternal love for freedom and democratic values, which were never broken, even when the Albanian nation was under dictatorship. Today, Albania and the United States are NATO allies and partners that work together for the protection of democratic freedom in Europe and the world”.
Diplomatic ties between Albania and the US were established back in July 28, 1922, a few months after the Paris Peace Conference, where US president Wilson sided publicly with Albanian citizens.
These relations were suspended for 52 years during the Italian invasion and later the communist regime, in order to be restored once against back in March 15, 1991, after the collapse of the communist regime which marked the beginning of pluralist democracy in Albanian politics.
