The US ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim has reacted after today’s verdict made by the Special Appeals Court, which decided to uphold the previous verdict, sentencing former Chief Prosecutor Adriatic Llalla to 2 years in prison.

Through a post on Twitter, the US ambassador stated that it is good news to see the justice system in Albania act against corrupt officials.

“Good to see justice served against corrupt officials. Prosecutors should continue to take action against officials – no matter how high or powerful – who misuse their position to enrich themselves. No one is above the law,” – wrote the US ambassador.

The US Department of State released a ‘non grata’ declaration for former Chief Prosecutor, Adriatik Llalla and his immediate family, banning them from entering US soil.

The Special Appeals Court decided today that they would uphold the verdict that sentenced Llalla to 2 years in prison.

Llalla has been convicted after hiding his wealth in regards to him spending $7 000 dollars to have his wife give birth to their son in the United States.

In addition, 4 private estates have been confiscated from the former prosecutor, located in the outskirts of Tirana and another apartment in Durres, which are in the process of becoming a property of the state.
