The decision of Lulzim Basha to step down as the leader of the Democratic Party deserves respect, wrote the US Embassy in Tirana on Facebook.

“Putting party and country over personal considerations is a sign of true leadership”, it added.

The embassy reiterated the importance of having a strong opposition force in the country, as something essential to democracy.
