Today, Parliament will be voting on the term extension for our vetting bodies – an issue bringing together Democrats and Socialists.
DP’s votes will be added to those of SP in order to extend the term of KPK and its public commissioners for another 2.5 years.
This was confirmed by MPs Ferdinand Xhaferaj, Dashnor Sula and Luciano Boci.
“We have been fundamentally in favor of the justice reform since the very beginning,” – said Xhaferaj.
“I will be in favor of any kind of decision that holds some value for our justice system first and foremost and in favor of whatever our strategic partners – the United States – will ask of us,” – said Sula.
“Yes, there is definitely no turning back on this reform, we need to vote,” – said Boci.
DP’s allies are in favor of extending the vetting mandate as well. Dashamir Shehi and Agron Duka have both confirmed their votes. However, the 2 deputy chairs of the Democratic Party, Agron Gjekmarkaj and Grida Duma, refused to elaborate.
In order to get approved, the extension of the vetting bodies will need at least 94 votes, which the Socialist majority in parliament won’t be able to achieve alone. Socialist MPs will need at least an additional 17 votes from the Democratic Party.
