The American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has reacted after the decision of the US Treasury Department to impose sanctions on the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and the Minister for Malicious Cyber Activities, Esmail Khatib, for the cyberattack on Albania.

Through a reaction on social media, Blinken stated that the United States will not tolerate cyberattacks that target the interests of allies, referring in this case to our country.

“We are designating Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security and its Minister for engaging in cyber-enabled activities against the U.S. and our allies. We won’t tolerate cyberattacks targeting the U.S. or our allies’ interests, infrastructure, or services,” – said Blinken in his Twitter post.

The multinational company Microsoft has also made public an investigation that confirms that Iran was behind the cyber-attack against the Albanian government.

Shortly after the cyber-attack against the Albanian government in mid-July, the Microsoft Detection and Response Team (DART) was engaged by the Albanian government to lead an investigation into the attacks – which have now been confirmed to have been directed by the state of Iran.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Edi Rama requested that the diplomatic staff of the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran leave Albania within 24 hours.
