2 senior officials in BiH slapped with US sanctions

The US Treasury Department sanctioned on Monday two senior officials from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the latest among a recent wave of public designations in the Western Balkan region.

According to the Treasury Department, the President of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Federation and the Alen Seranic, serving as Health Minister at the Republika Srpska “threatened the stability of the region’ by undermining the Dayton Peace Accords, and democratic processes or institutions”, a statement posted on the website of the department read.

Two months ago, the same institution sanctioned 7 other officials from the Western Balkans, including here two Albanian businessmen, Ylli Ndroqi and Aqif Rakipi.

The former Macedonian premier Nikola Gruevski has also been blacklisted by the Treasury Department.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are several officials targeted by the US, such as the former vice-chair of the Democratic Action party Asim Sarajlic and former prosecutor-general Gordana Tadic.
