An ethnic-Albanian journalist living in Bujanoc, Nexhat Beluli, declared that Albanian parties in Preshevo are more divided than ever ahead of elections in Serbia.
“We are less than 100 thousand residents here and we have 6 political parties running against each other more so than against their Serbian counterparts. It’s been impossible to participate in an election with one single list,” – said Beluli.
In addition, he said that Albanians have every opportunity to intervene in the current affairs of the Preshevo Valley, seeing that relations between Albanian PM Edi Rama and Serbian president Alexandar Vucic have been very good lately, compared to Kosovo which according Beluli, isn’t in the same position to do so.
According to the Bujanoc journalist, Albanians in Preshevo should speak up more and have their voices heard when it comes to things like the right to use their national symbols, the issue of the home address passivation, or the Serb government’s recent regulation which is forcing ethnic Albanians to substitute the names of their roads with Serbian ones.
Under these circumstances, Beluli said that ethnic-Albanians living in Preshevo should have more say in terms of who gets elected and how they choose to govern their commune.
