Albania’s active involvement in the Energy Community’s National Energy and Climate Plans (NECP) project underlines its strong commitment to sustainable energy practices.
The country has achieved significant milestones, demonstrating its determination to prioritize renewable energy sources, reduce emissions, and foster regional collaboration to build a more environmentally friendly future.
The NECPs serve as a strategic roadmap to achieve goals such as greenhouse gas reduction, increased investments in wind, solar, and hydropower projects, cost reduction, and the enhancement of energy sector security and sustainability.
The set targets in Albania’s NECP by 2030 encompass an 18.7% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, an 8.4% reduction in final energy consumption, and a substantial portion of renewable energy integration into the final energy consumption, reaching 54.4%.
Albania’s noteworthy accomplishment of generating zero-emission electricity positions it as a leader in working towards the decarbonization of various sectors.
Albania’s governmental approval of the initial version of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) in December 29, 2021, highlights the proactive approach to sustainable energy strategies. The draft proposal was submitted to the Secretariat, which provided comprehensive recommendations. The first NECP of Albania will continue to evolve and be refined, taking into account the meticulous guidance offered by the Secretariat.
NECPs serve as a compass that guides Europe’s ongoing commitment to achieving a climate-neutral continent by 2050. Through the NECPs, contracting parties gain a credible instrument to transparently showcase their dedication and priorities to their citizens and stakeholders, effectively illustrating their serious commitment to a greener transition.
