Goran Bregovic, a famous artist born to a Serbian mother and a Croatian father and living in Muslim Sarajevo, will perform at the annual Beer Festival in Korca.

However, the decision to invite Bregovic has caused a lot of noise both in Albania as well as in Kosovo.

Several artists and personalities from Pristina maintained a critical stance, but there were also those who thought differently.

Kosovar singer and lawmaker Eliza Hoxha explains that from a commercial aspect his participation is “more than normal”, however on a political and historical aspect it is “unacceptable”.

Another personality that criticized the invitation to perform of Goran Bregovic was Albanian writer Albatros Rexhaj. According to him, the presence of Bregovic means “denying what the people of Kosovo have gone through”.

Mehmet Behluli, professor at the Academy of Arts, said that despite all the uproar, Bregovic has been quite “correct” in his political stances regarding developments in the territory of the ex-Yugoslavia, adding that the public spat might be fueled by political motives.

In the past, Bregovic’s performances have been canceled several times, including in Poland and Ukraine after he had openly expressed support for the invasion of Crimea by Russia.
