The head of SPAK, Arben Kraja, said in an exclusive interview for Euronews Albania that SPAK prosecutors work in a very difficult field, as they investigate organized crime, terrorism, and high officials.
Excerpt from the interview:
“It is not only the US that we cooperate with, but we also cooperate with the EU, with individual countries in the region, and we also cooperate with the United Kingdom. It is obvious that the US is one of the main factors that have influenced the realization of the [justice] reform, in determining the new structures that will be created and are the main factors that have supported SPAK in its rise in these past 3 years. They have supported us from a financial point of view and by providing us with constant advice. At SPAK, we have representatives of the DEA, and the Department of Justice, as well as close contacts with European structures. There is no aspect to be surprised about the cooperation with foreign authorities. I have no authorization to comment on the ambassador’s statements and she knows why she made them. SPAK prosecutors definitely operate in a very difficult terrain because they investigate organized crime, terrorism, corruption, and high officials. All these elements have difficult situations to investigate and ultimately provide proof of guilt. Organized crime has a different specificity, high officials have a different specificity,” said Kraja.
