High Court has refused Artur Balla and Bledar Lilo’s recourse – both of whom were accused of money laundering by SPAK.

The driver and brother-in-law of major oil businessman Rezard Taci, will continue to remain in prison.

Meanwhile, an international arrest warrant has been released against Taci, who is wanted on the same charges.

Lilo and Balla have pleaded innocent on all counts. During recourse, Lilo claimed that he knew nothing about his boss’s business practices as he only served as a personal driver.

Meanwhile, Taci’s brother-in-law has asked for a more lenient security measure but was met with the court’s rejection on both of his appeals.

In November 2021, SPAK arrested Lilo and Balla and released an official arrest warrant against businessman Rezard Taci, currently an international fugitive.

SPAK has specified that the two suspects were arrested due to their involvement in money-laundering practices. Both Lilo and Balla would do this by conducting financial transactions through a second-tier bank in Albania and other foreign institutions, mainly in Switzerland.
