Albanian President Ilir Meta returned on Monday for a parliamentary evaluation of an agreement for the management of the National Park of Butrint.

According to Meta, the agreement undermines constitutional provisions and principles of the rule of law.

The president argued that the procedure followed did not guarantee thorough public consultation and failed the secure an opinion from independent local experts.

Among other things, Meta argued lack of an inclusive consultation is a violation of the resolution adopted by the European Parliament this May.

A few days ago, 75 MPs voted in favor of the law on the administration of the Butrint Pak by the Albanian American Development Fund for the upcoming 10 years.

Several civil society groups have also opposed the management of Butrint by this organization.
