Today, the Montenegrin Parliament will be voting on the case of dismissing the parliament’s speaker Aleksa Becic, 3 days after the motion of no-confidence called against the current government.

Becic is the leader of the Democratic Party – a party whose MPs voted against overthrowing the current government led by PM Zdravko Krivokapic.

The efforts for his dismissal were initiated by 38 opposition MPs from the Socialist Democratic Party (DPS) led by the current president Millo Gjukanovic, as well as 2 social-democratic parties including the Bosnian Party and the Albania Coalition.

In their request, opposition MPs have said that due to a complete lack of essential dialogue, the Montenegrin Parliament hasn’t been able to see the full completion of its European agenda, because the parliament’s speaker has allegedly “used his power in the interest of promoting his own personal or party interest instead of those of the general public”.

The opposition will need the support of the URA Civil Movement led by Dritan Abazovic, if they want to succeed in dismissing Becic.

The rest of the parliamentary majority, made up of 37 MPs of the Democratic Front and other smaller parties, have declared that they won’t be voting in this process.
