The Russian Embassy in Belgrade has reacted after Kosovo declared the Russian citizen Daria Asmalova, who is accused by several countries of espionage, ‘persona non grata’.
Through a public announcement, the embassy considered the decision made by Kosovo authorities a provocation and requested a reaction from international institutions such as the UN, OSCE or UNMIK.
“The groundless ban of Daria Aslamova represents another provocation of the temporary institutions in Kosovo, an example of Prishtina’s complete disregard for basic democratic principles, including the freedom of the media. We invite the UN Secretariat, UNMIK, the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, the EU Law Enforcement Mission, and the experts of international organizations to come out immediately with a public assessment of the event,” the announcement of the Russian embassy states.
Yesterday, the Minister of Internal Affairs in Kosovo, Xhelal Svecla, said that Asmalova was banned from entering Kosovo for a period of 5 years.
Afterwards, it was reported that Asmalova was released and had traveled to Serbia.
The news was announced by Russian media, according to which Aslamova was released during the early morning hours between Saturday and Sunday and followed the road alone towards the border between Serbia and Kosovo.
According to local media, she is currently in the Serbian city of Rashka.
