The US ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim, declared that it is now time to take the necessary measures in order to allow Albanians living abroad to participate in the electoral process.
Kim’s declaration came this Tuesday, during a conference organized by CEC and OSCE, centered around the voting process for the diaspora.
The US ambassador also noted that the April 25, 2021 elections were decent but they were not perfect.
“The April 25 elections were good, but they weren’t perfect and we all know this. The United States welcomes a possibility like this today, to work with our Albanian partners and institutions in order to address the continuous electoral issues, including the right of the diaspora to vote. This is a right that is guaranteed by the Constitution. We strongly urge serious bi-partisan cooperation so that the upcoming elections can fulfill the highest standards,” – said the diplomat.
Amongst other things, Kim said that the US will continue to strongly support the reforms which are necessary in order to strengthen Albania’s institutions, like the electoral reform and the justice reform.
