The Council on Guidelines, Mandates, and Immunity has convened today in order to discuss the mandate of the MP Olta Xhacka.

15 MPs will address the Council in today’s session after submitting their request last week to strip Xhacka of her mandate.

Democratic MPs are accusing the minister of a conflict of interest after her husband Artan Gaci, became a strategic investor through the construction of a new resort in southern Albania.

Meanwhile, the company belonging to the partner of the minister’s brother acquired the right to use the beach for the next 30 years.

During the session, Democratic MP Gazment Bardhi made a request to ask a few questions to Xhacka’s attorney but parliament speaker Lindita Nikolla refused by saying that the session doesn’t include a Q&A portion.

This spurred debates, as Democratic MP Agron Shehaj stated that Xhacka has clearly profited from public resources and breached the Constitution.

According to Shehaj, Xhacka’s mandate should be relinquished after which SPAK should take up the case and start a probe against her.
